want to hear a new song?

February 3, 2008

who knows

Tour time again. We are idiots. Every time we've toured, we've gone to cold places in the winter, and warm places in the summer. THIS TIME, however, we are going to WARMER places during the WINTER. And let me tell you, it is a great idea. Walking around Texas today in only a shirt and jeans reminded me of when I used to go on family vacations to Florida during Spring Break. I would leave Chicago and it would be all cold and terrible and then I'd step off the plane and it felt warm and glorious. Places had their air conditioning on! It's February!

We played a few shows in Oklahoma. Good times spent with good people. Tonight was Dallas. The other band that played did some sweet 90s covers from The Verve Pipe to Third Eye Blind and various others.

We're watching The Office right now. Earlier, Dan and Pete were failing miserably at Rock Band. I, however, killed it on the vox.

Ok andy wants his computer back.

Hearts forever,
Dave

your eyes are the size of the moon...

for real though, that new panic song is super catchy. so many bands are catching on to the 60s/70s-throwback-beatles-worship thing, and thats fine by me. i'll take that over terrible screaming and needless double-bass in pop songs any day.

tomorrow is the last day of our tour with mr. gutierrez. its been a ton of fun, and actually probably one of the best tours (turnout-wise) we've ever done. its been an interesting experiment going out with a spoken word dude like chris. hes used to speaking in coffee-houses, and the kids at these shows are used to seeing... well, bands. but kids seemed to respond well. once he got going into his thing though, he had them hanging on his every word.

it was also cool touring with that dude because honestly, i didnt really know him outside of shows. i think the internet might think that he and all of us were super tight to begin with, but really only justin and dave (and mostly dave) actually semi-regularly hung out with him. the rest of us just talked to him when he came to see us play. which was cool, but i never really felt like more than just an acquaintance with him. now though, we're actual, real-deal friends. which is awesome.

thanks to everyone that came out to see us. you guys are the only reason we tour, and you make it worthwhile for us.

watch out, west coast. we'll see you in a couple weeks.

<3,
andy

friends below, enemies above

pete is the baron. his weapon of choice is UNARMED. he ranks as MOST HONORABLE. proximity mines in the stack.

these are the clues. you must put them together to guess what activity transpires in epic proportions every night in the studio.

so yeah! we've been in long island for a week now. drums: DONE! bass: DONE! guitars: DONE! trumpet/piano/harpsichord/et al: ALMOST DONE! vocals: BEGINNING TOMORROW!

we're all beyond excited about finishing this record. its going to be composed of the 6 songs we're doing now, along with 6 we already recorded at vudu, but in other sessions. the previously recorded songs are going to remixed along with the new tracks, and when its all done, we will present the world with a 12 song full-length that would couldnt be more proud of.

it wont leave your stereo. i promise. even if you try to take it out, your cd player will totally explode all over the place.

in the meantime, you can chat with us while we're here on the screen name: YOWEINDASTUDIOYO (not case-sensitive!).

and ive already seen tons of pics online of you guys promoting our chicago show at subterranean! youre seriously amazing. this dvd is already hilarious... who knows what the future will bring?

so keep being awesome, and we'll do our best to reciprocate. expect new promo-pictures, exciting news updates, and maybe even a few sneak peeks of upcoming delicious treats in the near future!

November 9, 2007

under the milky way tonight

dang, some cops were just walking around my house with flashlights. i asked them if everything was ok, and they asked me if i had seen a group of dudes in hoodies. i said no, and they told me to make sure my car doors were locked. SNAP.

we recorded demos for 6 songs last night and today. these, along with a few others yet to come, will be brought to VUDU studios in long island where we'll pick the best of the best. justin said it in our myspace blog, and i will say it here: NO autotune bullshit, and boatloads of heavy riffs WITHOUT resorting to JUD JUD WEE. straight up riffage and hookage.

it will be the best pop-rock-metal-indie-jazz-punk (ok, all those genres next to each other look stupid, but its actually pretty accurate) record youll hear this year, if not EVER.

so we got a record in the works, shows coming up (november 23th in DOWNERS GROVE and december 22nd at SUBTERRANEAN in chicago with FIREWORKS, THE HIGH COURT, AND CHRISTOPHER GUITAREZ), and a sick tour on the horizon (FIREWORKS and THE HIGH COURT).

so comment all over our myspace page and let us know what you learned in school. and come hang out when we're in your town.

in the meantime, listen to "dear god" by XTC.

hymms

hypnotic eyes
starin at you from the dead of night
take refuge in the trees and beg "please oh please just let me survive"

this is my kind of place
where creatures crawl under your skin
and everywhere are claws sharp is blades
that'll cut you even if your soul is saved

in ohio, first week of tour is done, i have learned a few things, i have lost a few things, i feel a little out of sync with everything going on, but it wont last long

please come out to the east coast shows, i need to see your faces

enchantment under the sea dance when we get home, i hope biff doesnt show with beef

-petes dad found 2 dead bodies in a van that had been parked outside our practice space for a week! they were sitting in there, rotting, while we practiced!

make waaaay for the boooys

so we just got done playing our first show in california EVERRR. it was pretty awesome, actually. not to mention this is the start of round two of our glorious fun times with THIS TIME NEXT YEAR. i love them, and i missed them. they took us to the beach today, and now im way sunburned. it felt good when my guitar strap was rubbing against my shoulder while we played.

so yeaaah

did any of you happen to check out the new song we posted? it was only up for 24 hours, so i hope you listened while you had the chance...

so far, this tour has been super awesome. we've made a ton of new friends and played some great venues and i havent worn deodorant once. we still have some unconfirmed dates, so if we're not playing anywhere near you, keep checking our myspace because stevie is working hard to fill them last minute.

tomorrow we're playing in laguna hills, which i think is in the vicinity of laguna beach, which is a tv show i might watch if you paid me one million space bucks. actually, id probably rather swim in the bottom of a porto-potty than watch it. this is not a judgement call on you if you enjoy the show, but youd probably be a thousand times better off reading a decent book.

one more thing. as much fun as i'm having on tour, i cant wait to get home and play the HOUSE OF BLUES AUGUST 17th. however, since we'll only be home for a week before the show, we wont be able to promote the show ourselves nearly as much as we'd like to.

SO. we're asking for everyones help to promote this show. its an incredibly big deal (as you might have guessed!) for us to have the oppurtunity to play a place as rad as the house of blues, so ANYTHING you can do to help us promote it in the weeks before the show would be appreciated beyond measure.

tell all your friends, print out flyers to hand out at ANY and EVERY show you hear about in and around chicago, ANYTHING. dang, you could even play us for people on your ipod or discman or BOOMBOXXX outside of shows for people. we'll be right alongside you as soon as we're back, but in the meantime, we need all the help we can get to bring as many people as possible to this show.

so yeah, thats all i got. you guys are the greatest and i cant wait to see you all again when we get back. lets hang out and get hilarious.

also, our good friend mattydizzle is doing merch for us. he basically quit his cushy job at h&m to hang out with us for a month and a half. so be sure to say hi to him at the merch table and compliment his slick armani eyeglasses.

June 8, 2007

yooooo

So last night we played in middle of nowhere north carolina, it was amazing, anyone who watched the live feed of the show knows the insanity that persued, and I want to know who watched it. but if you didn't see it, all you need to know is that an extremely wasted stranger wandered onto the stage and demanded that we play christina aguilera's "dirty" and refused to give me the mic back, it was awesome. Brian danced with her and then she freestyled. It was a beautiful show. We are 3 for 3 so far...

After the show I drove a few hours and we stopped to sleep in the parking lot of the mall that has been our home all morning in virginia, I bought the new AP, I suggest you do the same, and I just ate some pretty good vegetable fried rice.

Maryland tonight, can't wait to see our friends there, dave is still kinda sick, I don't know what his deal is

dave is still super sick, we are hotel aheading it again, that dude needs to get better

pool tomorrow, another show...

i read deadstops book, its fucking great, do yourself a favor and get that thing, im so proud of what that dude does and i love his words, i wish they were mine.... maybe they will be.....

hotel rooms feel a little more like home, but nothing compared to strangers floors, the sad part is im being serious

i like to be nowhere, i like to feel like no one, is that weird? god i hope so

first day of tour

we are in a hotel in ohio, just outside of kentucky, dave has a terrible fever, but hes being a trooper

andy and pete and i are sharing a room, dave, dan and brian are in the next one over

tonight we played in kentucky with set your goals and fireworks. there were tons of kids in attendance and syg got an insane reaction, omar and the hit the lights dudes rolled out and there was mad hangouts and dude touching.

it has been a year almost to the day that we met fireworks and went on our very first tours together last summer, i truly value these dudes friendships more than anything, they are our brothers, and this last year has brought us together closer than any other band we have ever met, they are insanely talented dudes and will soon be taking over the world. im going to edit a video for one of their songs when we are at vudu, its going to be awesome...

first day of tour was amazing, it was so great to see friends from chicago come all the way out to send us off right, you mean the world to us, also thanks for the amazing gifts and goodies, i dont know what we would do without you, we probably wouldnt be doing anything, we would be lazy losers...

tomorrow we are playing in north carolina, we have to wake up early and hightail it to the show, i am excited to be out east again, i cant wait to go back to vudu studio and get rowdy with mike, these new songs are totally wild, i hope they turn out how i think they will, and i hope you love them

because i love you

June 4, 2007

lovers gravy yard

im getting up at 630 tomorrow so i can be packed and at daves by 8.  of course its 1:15 am im still awake.

i need to finish drawing a silly flyer for the fireworks/thistimenextyear/julian vena trio show at dave cronins house.  i will probably drink some more coffee and watch the sopranos.

jeffree star hung out at the practice space for a bit today.  hes a nice boy and has pretty hair.

our good friend brian blake is coming on tour to do merch for us.  he is very cute and will charm your socks/pants off.  be sure to give him lots of tips because he got kicked out of his house and is coming on tour with us partially because he is homeless.

its always awkward/terrible explaining to my coworkers (when im not on tour, im working at TARGET) what tour is like.

manager: "what kinds of places do you play?  like bars or something?"

me: "well, sometimes.  more often smaller venues and stuff."

manager: "oh, like the riviera?"

me: "not exactly..."

its funny, because even though we all grew up playing in metal/hardcore bands, doing this band (a POP band) has been one of the most punk rock things ive ever done.  we dropped out of school/quit jobs to go on tour, we're unsigned, and booking our own tours.  well, WE arent booking them, stevie does that because hes a moon master.  but still.  we're all taking huge risks...  financially, relationship-wise, et al.

trying explaining to your civilian friends why playing a show in delaware to 30 people is worth dropping out of school.

it IS worth it.  we're a band, and there seem to be a few people who enjoy our music.  people who cant drive 14 hours to chicago every couple of months.  so its our job to go to them.  and in the meantime, we get to hang out and take off our clothes in a van.  we love playing music, and if we ever want to make playing music something we do completely fulltime, then we need to tour.  simple as that.

i wont even go into how much it pisses me (and all of us) off that there are REAL BANDS, on BIG LABELS who seriously dont like to and dont want to tour.  i cant even explain how fucked up that is.  but thats another rant.

i have things to do and this entry came out way longer than i anticipated.

come see us when we're in your town!

June 3, 2007

ill never really be awake

so last night was the most insane thing ever

we drove out to aledo illinois, its super close to the quad cities, definitely in the middle of nowhere. we roll up to this all day metalcore fest pretty late, but in time to see our boys the hero estates play. after they play i went out on the roof and watched the most unreal storm clouds roll in while the dudes set up to play, our merch gets blown over when the clouds finally pass, so we closed some windows and i went over to start the set.
we open up with antrhax and dudes immediately start moshing, it ruled, then it began to storm super crazy and poured, so everyone from outside came in, so the room filled up quick and there were about 200 or more people there. we went into our set and i was expecting these "metal/hardcore/whatever" kids to be bummed out, but they all completely flipped out and went off like nothing i have ever seen for 2*Sweet before, it was pure mayhem. dudes were climbing up into the rafters of the ceiling and diving off, i saw one of them do a flip off of them, it was completely wild. tons of new and familiar faces singing along, nonstop mosh antics and dancing the whole time, it was so fun, it was seriously the last thing i expected, i loved it.
then we lit some insense (i cant spell) and devils pie dished out some sick riffs, those dudes are rad even when they dont cover down so dan could go into blind rage mode, but its all good. pete fed stix beer while he riffed and bled all over his guitar.

all in all, an awesome night, thanks to everyone who came out and was a part of it, for real a night i wont soon forget, now im still in my bed, hoping that it doesnt rain today because im going to ride my bike to my grandmas and do some yardwork for her before we leave for tour on tuesday.

i cannot wait to tour, it is the life, and live is for the living

i am rather upset because brian snaked his way into coming, i dont know about that dude....

SIKE!!!!!
